Katie Wetstone

About

Katie Wetstone is a Senior Data Scientist with a passion for leveraging advanced machine learning tools to support sustainable, ethical, and just change. Drawing from an interdisciplinary background, she works to translate data analysis methods to nuanced real-world contexts. At DrivenData, she manages open-source machine learning competitions as well as direct consulting projects to support mission-driven organizations. Her projects have spanned a variety of issues including conservation, financial inclusion, conflict, and public health. Prior to DrivenData, she earned a Masters in international development from the University of California, Berkeley, and developed K-8 science education programming.

  2. Deriving insights from satellite imagery using AI/ML relies heavily on ground reference data (or labels). These data are scarce outside the world's developed regions primarily due to a lack of investment and infrastructure to collect them. Foundation Models, however, promise to change this paradigm and break the barrier for everyone to benefit from AI/ML advancements, even with limited label data. We will discuss how end users can apply new Large Earth Foundation Models to solve the data scarcity problem.
